Simeon Care for the Elderly is a Scottish Charity providing a care home with nursing to 23 older people. Since 1984, we have supported older people to live an active, meaningful and purposeful life in a community of care. Simeon offers a small home and a care model that is able to adapt to meet the physical, social, mental and spiritual needs of our residents.
We aspire to be a high quality nursing care home where residents and their families have a sense of security knowing that Simeon will be their home for the rest of their life due to the provision of palliative and end of life care. Nearly all residents have died at home in Simeon, as was their wish, with family at their bedside. We work together to create a loving community of care, and help make the last years of life rich, joyful and rewarding – “May you live all the days of your life” J. Swift.
Simeon is registered with the Scottish Care Inspectorate and is consistently awarded high quality grades. We encourage you to read the reports on the Care Inspectorate website.
Simeon is one of the independent charities part of the worldwide Camphill Movement and one of the seven Camphill charities in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. What makes Camphill different is the emphasis on mutual support and the value of everyone’s unique contribution to the community.
We are very fortunate to have a strong, dedicated and caring team. Simeon is governed by the 9 Board of Directors who have a wealth of knowledge and skills in a variety of topics including social care, accountancy, pharmacy, teaching, HR and management. We have 11 full-time and 11 part-time employed staff. There are 4 long-term co-workers who permanently live and work in Simeon. We have 35 volunteers helping in care work, befriending, administration, gardening and events. 8 of these volunteers are live-in carers from across the world who live and work here for up to one year to learn about caring for the elderly. We were delighted when we scooped the ‘Volunteers Favourite’ ACVO Aberdeen Impact Award following their nomination in 2013.
As a Scottish charity, we report to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) and submit our audited accounts to them each year. Here is Simeon Audited Accounts 2015-16 , 2016-17, and 2017-18.
Simeon is based on the picturesque Cairnlee Estate in a suburb of Aberdeen called Bieldside. From here we support older people from the local area, Scotland and other Camphill communities.
