Simeon is located in the beautiful grounds of Cairnlee Estate in Bieldside, Aberdeen. Simeon is home to 23 residents provided in a care home with nursing. Our small scale home is to create our residents with a sense of security and homely environment. The building is wheelchair accessible throughout. Residents have shared use of the dining room and sitting areas, a kitchen and larder and laundry rooms.
Each resident has their own single en-suite bedroom which is spacious and bright. Each room has their own shower room, a nurse call system, specialised nursing bed (some with hoist tracking on the ceiling), wardrobe, bedside table, 4 drawer wide chest, and network points for telephone and computer. The 18 bedrooms on the ground floor have their own personal patio and the 5 bedrooms on the first floor (lift available) has a beautiful view of Royal Deeside. There are two shared bathrooms with hoists.
We have social gatherings where concerts and plays are performed, church services held, and community events are celebrated.
The south-facing garden, which we call the Golden Garden, has been designed by dementia landscape designer, Dr Garuth Chalfont.
The paths are suitable for wheelchairs and handrails are situated throughout. There are different areas to explore, from cosy seating alcoves and a potting shed to wildlife stations and vegetable patches. Even on cold Aberdeen days, we enjoy nature. Residents are welcome to grow and tend individual flower beds and potted plants around the house and grounds. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us in the ITV People’s Millions. Thanks to the public support, Simeon won £45,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to create our new Golden Garden.
Our aim is to create a real home from home – a nurturing place where there are books on the shelves, flowers cut from the garden and a fire in the hearth. We grow organic fruit and vegetables, cook simple, nutritious meals and everyone has their own napkin ring.
