Simeon Celebrates Perfect Start To Birthday Year

February 2014

A much-loved north-east care organisation has marked the start of its 30th anniversary year by accepting a £250,000 donation towards its ambitious plans for a new facility.

Simeon Care for the Elderly has been presented with the cheque by the Robertson Trust, which was established in 1961 for charitable purposes by the family behind the Scottish business group Edrington.

The significant donation helped push Simeon’s New Lease of Life appeal past the halfway point in the drive to raise £2million when it was pledged last year and has now been handed over. Simeon is currently home to 18 older people but the ongoing appeal will enable a new facility to be built within the grounds of the existing facility.
The aim is to significantly improve the current care home services to the elderly and to boost capacity by providing 23 en-suite bedrooms. The building on land at Cairnlee Road, designed by Camphill Architects, features dementia-friendly design and a commitment to energy efficient technology.

Bancon Construction has been appointed main contractor for the project, with preparatory work already underway and the building due to be completed by the end of the year.
Fundraising manager Gayle Johnston said: “The Robertson Trust’s support for the project has been vital to the overall fundraising effort. The trust’s substantial donation has provided a solid foundation as we move to the next stage, aiming to build on the success of the past year. Continue reading »

Fundraising Campaign Gathers Pace With Running Partnership

January 2014

Supporters of a north-east charity are being urged to pull on their running shoes to support a campaign to create a vital new care facility.

Simeon Care for the Elderly, which is celebrating its 30th birthday this year, has teamed up with organisers of Run Balmoral to become one of the popular event’s charity partners.
The organisation will have up to 30 people representing it when competitors in the 5k and 10k races take their place on the start line on April 26.

Spaces in the Simeon team are still available and fundraising manager Gayle Johnston said: “Run Balmoral is growing in popularity with every passing year and we’re delighted to be able to guarantee people a free place on the entry list by welcoming them to our team. It is not only a fantastic opportunity to raise funds for our appeal but also a great way to raise awareness of Simeon.

“In 2013 we had a number of athletes flying the flag for Simeon at various events, with everything from leisure runners through to marathon experts supporting the cause. We’re looking forward to building on that this year, with lots of exciting plans. Continue reading »

Work To Begin On New Care Facility

December 2013

Plans to create a vital new care facility in the north-east have taken a significant step forward with the appointment of a main contractor for the major project.

Simeon Care for the Elderly, which launched its New Lease of Life appeal earlier this year, is more than halfway to meeting its ambitious target of raising the £2m required to turn the vision into reality. The independent organisation is part of the Camphill Movement and one of seven Camphill charities in Aberdeen.

With more than £1m of that £2m target already raised through grants and other fundraising activities, Simeon is preparing for the start of work at its Bieldside site after awarding the contract for the work to Bancon Construction. The Banchory-based firm came through a competitive tendering process to be selected.

Simeon is currently home to 18 older people but the current appeal will enable a new facility to be built within the grounds of the existing facility. The aim is to significantly improve the current care home services to the elderly and to boost capacity by providing 23 en-suite bedrooms.
