Simeon’s ethos of community and care is richly supported by international volunteers who live on site, and alongside those receiving care. In Camphill we call it ‘life sharing’. At Simeon, we host up to nine international volunteers who live and work in the community, usually staying with us for a year. Over the years they have provided hundreds of hours of service to the community and left a rich legacy of kindness and care. Some volunteers have gone on to become permanent members of the team, while many others have returned home and shared what they have learned in their personal and professional lives. It is a mutually enriching experience for young and old alike. Have a look at Simeon Facebook page – it is sure to bring a smile and boost your spirits.
We have four volunteer bedrooms in Simeon House, and the temporary use of 5 bedrooms in Whithorn (Simeon’s former home). We now have the opportunity to make a permanent home at ‘Rosebank’ house on Baillieswells Road, next to Simeon House, to replace the rooms in Whithorn. By building out the loft and renovating the downstairs, we can provide comfortable and affordable accommodation for 5 volunteers. The house will also have a kitchen and dining/lounge for the volunteers to relax and get to know each other. We know one of their favourite leisure activities is to cook typical meals from their home countries to share with each other.
The renovation and loft conversion of Rosebank will cost £100,000. We are delighted to tell you that already we have secured donations of £32,500 towards this project – an incredible £10,000 donation from a family member of a former resident, £2,500 from Newton Dee, and £20,000 from the Camphill Foundation.
We are very heartened by this generous support, and are reaching out to family, friends, former volunteers, and supporters for donations to help us to ‘Raise the Roof’ and create a new home for our wonderful volunteers.
Every penny counts and we would be grateful for any donation, however big or small.
To make a donation, you can either:
Sort Code: 83-49-40, Account Number: 00259563
If you are a tax payer, you can ‘Gift Aid’ your donation by completing this form (PDF) (Word). This boosts your donation by 25p for every £1 you donate. If you are donating through the Virgin Money Giving site, you can ‘Gift Aid’ your donation on the website without needing to complete this form.
There are many other ways you can help – such as doing a personal challenge and asking friends and family to sponsor you. We are delighted to report that a long-time supporter of Simeon, Marjorie Roadnight, is taking part in the Kiltwalk in June to raise money for this project. Maybe you would like to follow in her footsteps and sign up to a local event? Or perhaps organise your own event – a coffee morning is a great way to raise money and catch up with friends and family over some fine pieces and a cuppa.
Simeon would not be the same without these warm hearted, devoted, lively, and hard working volunteers. Will you help us to make a new home for them, and ensure the continuation of our very successful international volunteer programme?
If you have any questions or would like to talk about a fundraising idea, please feel free to speak with me.
We are very excited about this project and hope you can help in some way.
Thank you for your interest and your support. You can follow developments, and news of Simeon on our Facebook page.
With best wishes
