Volunteer Visitors come to Simeon to gain practical experience and insight into the life of older people through participating in the life and work of the community. Volunteer visitors may use the experience as part of working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award, may be planning a career in medicine, social work or nursing, or simply wish to benefit the local community.
To be a Volunteer Visitor at Simeon you must be at least 16 years old, and it is essential to have basic English language skills. Some previous experience of care or social work with vulnerable people would be an advantage but not essential. You should be prepared to meet and get along with people from other cultures, have a compassionate and caring nature, and a willingness to share your gifts and talents to enrich the lives of others. As you will be working under supervision, you should be willing to learn and accept instruction from senior co-workers.
